Srinagar, Dec 26: Alleging some senior police officer was indulging in electoral politics, chairman of Peoples Conference (PC) Sajad Gani Lone on Wednesday said that people of Jammu and Kashmir deserve to choose their leaders without these “Machiavellian tactics”.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Sajad wrote: “IPS officer of the rank of ADGP indulging in electoral politics. Summoned some SPs, DSPs deliberating how to script a wave for his favourite leader.Will name him soon. But hope @PMOIndia @jandkgovernor @KVijayKumarIPS take note. Give us an even play field. Is that too much to ask?”
Part two of his tweet read: “If the said ADGP is so keen to enter politics let him go and fight in his own state. Don’t the people of J&K deserve to choose their leader without these Machiavellian tactics. Aren’t rigged elections the reason where we are today. Are there no lessons to be learnt. @PMOIndia.”
Later in a press conference, Sajad said he would write to Election Commission of India (ECI) and Prime Minister about the involvement of the alleged IPS officer of the rank of ADGP in electoral politics.
The presser was to announce former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Crime and PDP leader, Raja Aijaz Ali’s joining Peoples Conference.
Ali recently resigned from the basic membership of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) party to join PC.
He contested 2014 Assembly elections on PDP ticket from Uri, but was defeated by National Conference’s Mohammad Shafi Uri.
He stood next to Congress candidate TajMohi-Ud-Din, who was Uri’s strongest rival.
Sajad, and leaders Abid Ansari and Junaid AzimMatoo, were present at the function.
Welcoming Ali, Ansari said his party has been moving on the path of change.
“We are moving forward, getting good renowned personalities into our party. We hope that in future also more and more people would be joining our party,” he said.
Ansari said PC would work for the people, who have been seeing miseries for the last 40 years.
“People have been seeing dynasty rule, corruption and what not. We want to ensure better future for our people,” he said.
Sajad said those who “eroded autonomy cannot restore it.”
“Who eroded it needs to be ascertained. We need to revisit 1987. We will not rest until we try to find out if rigging was the reason for the eruption of militancy,” he said.
“Why poor have been killed? One needs to fix the responsibility for rigging in 1987 elections.”
Ali said he was joining JKPC keeping in view the party’s historical background.
“The image of the leaders is good. I really look forward to work for the people of the state,” he said.
Referring to PDP, he said, the party “didn’t listen to him”.
“In 2016 unrest, PDP could have taken my advice on bringing things to a normal, as I have handled law and order for almost 16 years,” he said.
