Police in closure report: ‘Uri fitness trainer hanged self’

Srinagar, Feb 06: Police on Wednesday claimed to have solved the mysterious death of a fitness trainer, who was found hanging in a building near his gym centre at Azad Gunj area Baramulla on December 18.

According to the police, the 25-year old Azim Nazir from Uranboha, Boniyar, in Baramulla district, “has committed suicide by hanging himself”.
Azim had gone missing on December 13 after spending half the day in a gymnasium at Azad Gunj, Baramulla. He used to live with the family of Abdul Khaliq Buroo, the proprietor of the gym.

On December 18, police found Azim’s body hanging from the ceiling of a room in the building housing the gym with his one ear torn down and one of his eyes was gouged and his cheeks were peeled off. Soon after the incident, a Special Investigation Team of police was constituted on 20 to investigate the matter.

After investigations, police on Wednesday revealed that the deceased was in relationship with a girl from Rajasthan and the couple had parted ways.“The deceased was unable to bear the shock and as an extreme measure he hanged himself to the death,” said a police spokesperson.

Police also said that the electronic, circumstantial, medical and forensic evidence also established the he hanged himself by a rope.
Moreover, police added that the witnesses who had knowledge of the circumstances and events thereof recorded the statements before the Honorable court.

Speaking to The Kashmir Monitor, Senior Superintendent of Police, Baramulla, Imtiyaz Hussain said, “Both Medical and forensic experts established that the marks on the face have got inflicted after the death, most likely by rodents. And accordingly matter has been closed as case of suicide.”

The Azim’s family had suspected that their son was murdered and accused Buroo’s family of killing their son.

However, police investigated all the members of the Buroo’s family which discovered that the family was innocent and were released after eight days of investigation.

Speaking to the Kashmir Monitor, Asif Buroo said that he treated Azim like his own son. “I had son but Azim was my elder son and how can father kill his own son,” Asif lamented.
