Srinagar, Aug 09: Police on Thursday foiled the protest march Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) employees and detained scores of its members after they tried to march towards Civil Secretariat here to protest against the redressal of issue of SSA teachers, RMSA teachers and masters.
EJAC employees under the leadership of Senior JCC leader and President of EJAC, Ab Qayoom Wani assembled in Sher-e-Kashmir park and shouted slogans for implementation of 7th pay commission in favour of SSA, RMSA teachers and masters.
The protesters tried to march towards Civil Secretariat here but were stopped by heavy contingent of police already deployed outside SK Park.
Police used batons and water canon to disperse the protesting employees.
However, the EJAC statement issued to KNS reads that scores of leaders and activists were injured especially Lateef Ahmad Malik senior leader EJAC who was admitted in SMHS for treatment.
During protests, Wani along with hundreds of leaders and activists were bundled in police vehicles and detained in different police stations of Srinager.
Wani with other senior EJAC leaders were arrested.
The protesting employees demanded implementation of 7th pay commission in favour of SSA, RMSA teachers and masters and linking of their salaries with state sector.
Leaders of EJAC who addressed the gathering warned the government of dire consequences if humiliation to nation builders will not be stopped forthwith.
“In case the legitimate demands will not be redressed at an earliest, EJAC will be forced to intensify its struggle,” they said.
Wani said that govt is unnecessarily pushing teaching fraternity to the wall. “Teachers and masters working under SSA and RMSA are being humiliated by depriving them from their legitimate rights,” he said.
He said that the successive political regimes have deceived teaching fraternity by hallow promise and now teachers have pinned their hopes with the Governor administration for justice. “Although the administration seems to be positive but exercise for implementing 7th pay commission and linking of SSA, RMSA salary seems to be going on slowly and teachers do feel that justice delayed is justice denied,” he added.
Wani said that teachers don’t want to come on roads but ignoring their legitimate rights is main cause for opting agitating path. He said delay in resolution the 7th pay commission and liking of salaries of forty thousand teachers and masters working under SSA, RMSA directly or in directly will prove harmful for the academics in the schools.
He urged upon Governor of the state N. N. Vohra, Advisors Khurshid Ahmad Ganaie, B B Vyas, Chief Secretary B. V. Subramaniyam and Secretary Education for their immediate personal intervention so that this human issue may be redressed at an earliest.
Talking to media, Wani said if govt failed to resolve the issues of SSA, RMSA teachers and masters, the leadership of Teachers Joint Action Committee will have a crucial meeting on 13th of August and future course of action will be announced in the meeting.
