Srinagar, Apr 23: With no letup in protests, the police has again started summoning the youth involved in various offences.
Controlling the protests, which erupted after the rape and murder of a Kathua minor, have become a cumbersome affair for the government.
The students have been hitting the streets to demand stern punishment to the culprits involved in the heinous crime.
In the last one-and-a-half months, the schools and colleges have remained closed for 25 days, as the authorities were apprehensive about the law and order problem.
On April 21, the Education Minister, Altaf Bukhari, asked the students to join the classes or face action from the government.
Subsequently on Sunday, he announced closure of tuition centres for up to class 12 for 90 days.
As per the sources, many youth of the valley have been served notices asking them to report to their concerned police stations for having their statements recorded.
“The youth having FIRs registered against them are being summoned. These include the youth involved in offences such as stone pelting and arson,” the sources told The Kashmir Monitor.
Police on Sunday arrested a youth allegedly for speaking to an international news channel.
“Youth spoke to Al Jazeera, a Duha-based news channel. He spoke about the protests that erupted in the valley after the Kathua incident,” the sources said.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir range, Swayam Prakash Pani, said he would look into the matter.
“As such, I have no information of any such development,” he said.
