Police arrests three persons involved in Sopore grenade attack

Srinagar, Feb 2: Police on Saturday claimed to have solved a grenade throwing module of Jaish-e-Muhammad militant group by arresting three persons in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

A police spokesman said that unknown militants threw a grenade at SBI camp of 179 BN CRPF in Sopore on January 25 evening.
“The grenade missed the intended target and exploded outside the camp in which no loss of life or injury was reported,” he said.

A case FIR No. 13/2019 under sections 307 RPC, 7/27 A. Act was registered in Police station Sopore and investigation of the case was set into motion, he said.

During the course of investigation, three individuals were detained by the police on the basis of suspicion.

The trio, he said, confessed to the crime during the questioning.“It was revealed that the JeM militant outfit based in Sopore provided two grenades to these individuals for throwing on the security forces,” said the spokesman.

He said one grenade was recovered from their possession. “Accordingly, they have been formally arrested in the case. Investigation of the case is going on and more arrests are expected,” he said.

Those arrested were identified as Ghulam Qadir Rather of Tarzoo, Aijaz Ahmad Khan of Naseem Bagh and Owais Khalid Dar Nageenbagh Krankshivan Colony Sopore.
