Bengaluru: Disturbing CCTV footage from a private rehabilitation centre near Bengaluru has sparked massive public outrage after showing a patient being mercilessly beaten and dragged by staff members.
The incident took place at a rehab facility located in the Nelamangala Rural Police limits, approximately 30 km from Bengaluru city. The footage, which has now gone viral, shows a man undergoing treatment being cornered in a room and beaten repeatedly with sticks by two individuals while others stood by and watched.
In the shocking video, one of the attackers begins assaulting the patient with a stick, followed by another man who joins in the beating. At one point, the victim is seen being dragged across the floor, clearly in distress.
While the video only surfaced recently, police say the incident occurred earlier and a case was registered suo moto. All accused individuals captured in the video have been identified and arrested.
Adding to the controversy, additional photos from the same facility surfaced online showing some of the accused celebrating a birthday and cutting a cake with a dagger—raising questions about the environment and safety protocols within the institution.
Police have invoked multiple charges against the accused, including provisions under the Arms Act, as part of their ongoing investigation.
The incident has triggered widespread calls for stricter monitoring of rehabilitation centres and better protection of patients under care.
