Noted ENT Specialist Dr Ahad passes away

Srinagar, Jan 4: Kashmir’s prominent ENT specialist, Dr Sheikh Abdul Ahad, passed away on Thursday at SKIMS where he was admitted on Monday.
Dr Ahad was 74.
Family sources said that Dr Ahad had a prostate issue for a long time.
“Early last month, a crisis was detected in his duodenum. It quickly spread some infection in the body and the noted doctor was admitted to SKIMS for septicemia,” sources said.
“Doctors at SKIMS operated him a few days back. He had started recovering and was better on Wednesday. However, his conditioned deteriorated and he was transferred to a ventilator where he breathed his last at around 8 pm on Thursday,” they added.
On Friday, scores of people attended the funeral prayers of the deceased in Seloo, his ancestral village in Sopore.
Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) President, Dr Suhail Naik expressed grief on hearing upon the sad demise of Dr Ahad.
DAK, as per the spokesperson, said that Dr Ahad was among the torch bearers in establishing the department of ENT at SMHS hospital.
“After completing his MBBS and MS(ENT) from prestigious Maulana Azad Medical college in 1960’s, Dr Ahad joined the department of ENT at SMHS hospital, served there in various capacities and superannuated as Professor and Head of the Department in 1999. After retiring from Government service, he was actively involved in private practice,” said Dr Naik.

A delegation of DAK visited the ancestral house of the deceased in Seloo and participated in his funeral prayers.
“DAK condoles with the bereaved family at this hour of grief. DAK prays for the departed soul and may almighty give patience to the family to bear this irreparable loss,” a DAK spokesperson said.
