NLCO, LC&MA begin 3rd spring rejuvenation at Khushalsar

KHUSHLSAR, AUGUST 10: NLCO today, under its flagship community-led eco-initiative Mission Ehsaas, started the rejuvenation of the third spring at Khushalsar. This collaborative effort between the Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO), the JK Lake Conservation Management Authority (LC&MA), and dedicated stakeholders aims to breathe new life into the spring.

The event was graced by the presence of VC LC&MA Dr. Bashir Bhat, who served as the Chief Guest, and TAAK President Rauf Trumboo. Their participation, alongside local residents and community leaders, highlighted the power of community partnership in environmental conservation.

Students, seen as future mascots for environmental awareness, played a vital role in the day’s activities, demonstrating the growing commitment of the younger generation to ecological stewardship. The collaboration between all participants signals a hopeful future for the restoration of this critical water source.

In his address, NLCO Chairman Manzoor Wangnoo expressed his gratitude to VC LC&MA Dr. Bashir Bhat, TAAK President Rauf Trumboo, the students, and all stakeholders for their unwavering support. He emphasized that while the rejuvenation efforts are a positive step forward, sustained success hinges on government action to connect local drains and sewage to Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs). Without this crucial infrastructure, maintaining the restored spring will remain a significant challenge.

“This initiative is not just about restoring a spring; it’s about empowering the community to take custodianship of their environment, ensuring its preservation for future generations. Together, we are making strides towards a healthier, more sustainable Khushalsar,” said Wangnoo in his statement.
