Militant killed in Handwara shootout: Police

Srinagar, Nov 11: One militant was killed in a brief shootout at Handwara bypass on Sunday.

A police official said militants hurled a grenade on a naka party of the police which retaliated with gunfire killing one of the militants in the shootout. He said identity of the slain militant is yet to be ascertained.

A police spokesman said that a group of militants while moving through Handwara was intercepted by a naka party near Chotipora in the jurisdiction of Police station Handwara triggering an encounter during which one militant was killed. The area has been cordoned off and searches are going on in the area.

Meanwhile Kashmir zone police on its twitter handle said “Handwara update: One militant killed. Identity being ascertained. Arms and ammunition recovered. Information is preliminary in nature.”

 

Another soldier killed in sniper attack in Rajouri

Srinagar, Nov 11: In a second such incident in as many days, an army soldier was killed in cross-LoC sniper fire in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday evening.

An official said that a soldier was killed after being shot at by a sniper from across the LoC in Kalal area of Nowshera Sunday evening.

In a similar such incident, another army soldier was killed in cross-LoC sniper fire Saturday morning in Sunderbani area.

Two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were also wounded in a separate firing incident in Rajouri on Saturday.
