Srinagar, Feb 13: Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, the Governor-led J&K is likely to see more rejigs in police and civil administration as the Election Commission of India (ECI) has brought forward the deadline of transfers and postings from February 28 to February 20.

Consequent to the ECI’s decision, the J&K General Administration Department on Tuesday asked all the administrative secretaries to complete the exercise of transfers and postings of the officers and officials by or before February 18.

It also asked for a compliance report of the same before February 20, which will eventually be submitted to ECI.

“Matter may kindly be treated as Most Urgent,” read the GAD order.

The Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha polls comes into force in the first week of March.
An official of General Administration Department said that “various DCs and SSPs will be transferred from their existing places in the coming days.”

“The Chief Secretary has already given a green signal for it,” the official said.

During the last few weeks, the government ordered transfers of four senior IAS officers and appointed new secretaries in the home and finance departments.

The Service Selection Recruitment Board too has been directed to release the selection lists of various posts before the Code comes into effect.

“There are posts for which examinations were conducted last year and we expect their selection lists are released in the current month,” an official of SSRB told The Kashmir Monitor.

J&K is up for two elections this year –Lok Sabha and Parliamentary¬. Whether or they will be held simultaneously has not been finalised yet.

On Tuesday, BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav said that there is a possibility of holding both of them together in J&K.

“We have to reach out to people through our workers … and win the forthcoming Parliament polls. There is possibility of holding polls to J&K legislative assembly at that time (LS polls),” Madhav said while addressing a function in Jammu.
