Srinagar, Jan 28: Government has failed to complete the construction of new Indoor Stadium, at Polo Ground on time.
The construction work which started in 2014 is yet to be completed.
Back in that year, the Government had approved the construction of the Indoor Stadium.
However, flood halted the work which was resumed in 2015 construction.
It went on at snail’s pace throughout and is yet to completed.
Ask the contractor and he puts the blame on lack of funds
“Due to the lack of funds, the construction usually stops, if the government will release the funds, I can complete the work within couple of months,” said Zahoor Ahmed, the Contractor of the project.
A boy playing cricket at Polo Ground said they have been seeing the structure which has occupied one side of the ground from many years.
“There is hardly any work that happens here,” the boy said.
Secretary J&K State Sports Council Waheed-Ur-Rehman Para said that the stadium was ready to host games.
He said the Council has been awaiting the completion of filling process of the ground.
“Let the grass grow in the vicinity of the ground and then the stadium will be thrown open for games,” he said.
