Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday inaugurated the 1975 Emergency Exhibition at the Convention Centre in Jammu.

In a post on X, the Office of the LG wrote, “Inaugurated 1975 Emergency Exhibition at Convention Centre, Jammu.”

Referring to the Emergency period, the post said, “In that darkest phase of India’s democratic history, the soul of the nation was crushed, civil liberties were trampled, constitutional safeguards were breached, and the dreams of nation-building were shattered.”

While paying tribute to those who resisted the Emergency, LG Sinha emphasized the need to strengthen democratic values. “As we remember the painful events and honour the sacrifices made by countless individuals to protect our constitutional ethos, we must commit ourselves to deepening the roots of democracy and working tirelessly for the progress of our nation,” he stated.

He further remarked, “I regard the Emergency as the most inhuman chapter in the annals of Indian democracy. Today’s observance of ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ is a moment for serious introspection and a renewed pledge to uphold democratic principles and constitutional integrity.”
