Leopard hides, musk deer pods, bear bladders recovered in south Kashmir’s Anantnag, one arrested

Srinagar: The officials of the Wildlife Department and police Saturday said they have arrested one person and recovered a number of leopard and other forest animal hides and body parts from his possession in Anantnag district of South Kashmir.

Quoting Wildlife Warden Anantnag, Rouf Zargar, news agency GNS reported that a team of wildlife officials along with a police party raided a house at Shirpora Anantnag and recovered forest animal parts including eight leopard hides, four musk deer pods and 38 bear gallbladders. He said that the gallbladders seem to be about eight years old.

The arrested person has been identified as Gul Mohammad Ganai, son of Abdul Rehman Ganai, a resident of Shirpora Anantnag.

“There was specific information against him and he had previously escaped arrest. Yesterday, we received information and we raided his house and carried out the recoveries.”

Regional Wildlife Warden Rashid Naqash said that an FIR is being registered in connection with the case after the raid is completed. (GNS)
