Jammu, Feb 25: Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday directed holding of a high level inquiry into what it called “procedural inadequacies” in the selection process of the Jammu & Kashmir Khadi & Village Industries Board (KVIB), the results of which were declared a couple of days ago.
“The inquiry would be held by a committee headed by the Chief Secretary and it has been asked to furnish its report in a short time,” an official government statement read.
Soon after the announcement, Aroot Madni, son of PDP leader Sartaj Madni declined to accept the offer of appointment as Executive Officers from the Board.
Aroot’s appointment has raked up the issue with opposition and other stakeholders claiming that it was a case of “nepotism”.
News agency KNS quoted PDP Chief Spokesperson Rafi Ahmed Mir saying: “Aroot Madni, the son of Sartaj Madni has voluntarily declined to accept the appointment as Executive Officer Jammu & Kashmir Khadi & Village Industries Board (KVIB)”.
Mir, however, did not respond to multiple calls made by The Kashmir Monitor.
Earlier, KNS had quoted Mir saying that “the probe issued by chief minister has also been withdrawn.”
Omar reacted to it on Twitter saying: “Why should the probe be withdrawn? Madni declining the job doesn’t wash away the fraud & nepotism. This issue must be probed by a High Court monitored investigation (sic).”
Soon after, Minister for R&B Naeem Akhtar too entered into the conversation and tweeted: “Probe on, Not withdrawn. Seeing architects of backdoor in J&K upset is climate change PDP brought about. Quoting scripture is interesting.”
