‘Kashmir Trout’: Pick a live fish before eating at this unique restaurant

Srinagar: Have you come across a restaurant that allows you to select a live trout of your choice from a fish tank before it is cooked and served on the table?

If you have not yet had this experience, you should visit the ‘Kashmir Trout’ near Kathi Darwaza in downtown Srinagar.

The unique restaurant has impressed the foodies in Kashmir not just with its live fish tank but also with around 12 different recipes of trout.

“Kashmir Trout – Cafe and Restaurant was opened recently in Srinagar. Here, you can select a live fish from our tank and then get it cooked. We have around 12 different trout specialties like fresh trout soup, tandoori trout, continental trout, Kashmir trout premium, etc. We also serve regular Kashmiri cuisines besides other Indian dishes,” co-founder of the Kashmir Trout, Mir Autif told The Kashmir Monitor.

He said the visitors at the restaurant, especially children also come to know about different trout varieties available in Kashmir and how these are procured from different parts of the Valley.

“Customers have liked this concept as it is a totally different experience. They can also choose from the already marinated fish that we have before ordering food. When children come and visit us, it is an immensely good feeling as they get to know more about the trout – the varieties available, its background, and most important of all how it comes from almost all districts of Kashmir to our stores,” he said.

He said they also sold trout at three different points if the customers wanted to cook it at home.

“They also have the option of buying raw fish that is available here besides two other places at Natipora and Anantnag. Our restaurant was recently thrown open but our trout procurement omni channel platform has been functioning for over a year and a half,” Mir told The Kashmir Monitor.

He said the fish was procured from different trout farms in the Valley. “We procure fish locally from different trout farmers in Kashmir. We sell trout throughout the year. You can also pick your trout and also get it cleaned with our in-house cleaning facility,” he said.
