Justice Magray visits Juvenile Observation Home

Srinagar, Sep 28: Chairman Jammu & Kashmir High Court Legal Services Committee Justice Ali Mohammad Magray today visited Juvenile Observation Home (JOH), here at Harwan.

He interacted with the juveniles and inquired about their daily routine and facilities provided to them. He also inspected playing area, medical room and other facilities meant for the juveniles.

While interacting with the officials, Justice Magray asked them to involve the juveniles in more sports activities for their physical fitness and hold counselling sessions for them.

Justice Magray said that the atmosphere in JOH should be such that the juveniles should not feel it like a jail. Our purpose at JOH should be to show right path to the detainees, rather than making them feel like criminals, he said.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, SDM Srinagar, Sandeep Singh Bali, representatives of District Legal Services Authority, Child Welfare Committee and other concerned officials were present on the occasion.

Later, Justice Magray visited Central jail Srinagar where he was presented with a Guard of Honour.

There, he interacted with the senior jail officials, Jail inmates and life time convicts.

He said that there is a need to generate awareness among the inmates about their rights and it is the responsibility of the judiciary to ensure that the inmates are not deprived of their rights.

Later, Justice Magray also visited Drug De-addiction Center and inspected various facilities being provided to the patients.

He also interacted with the patients admitted at the drug de addiction centre and enquired about the facilities being provided to them.
