Jammu, April 29: The Jammu and Kashmir BJP Monday pitched for permanent closure of cross-LoC trade, currently suspended on the direction of the Centre, saying it has developed into a channel to foment trouble and sponsor illegal and unwanted activities.

The saffron party also launched a scathing attack on National Conference and PDP leadership for their stand on Article 370 and Article 35A which, according to the BJP, have lost their relevance and time has come for their “removal for good”.

Article 370 of the Constitution grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir and limits Parliament’s power to make laws concerning the state, while Article 35A empowers the state assembly to define ‘permanent residents’ for bestowing special rights and privileges on them.

“The cross-LoC trade has brought countless miseries to the state as it has developed into a channel to foment trouble and do illegal and unwanted activity. Its suspension should pave the way for its permanent closure,” BJP state spokesperson Brig (Retd) Anil Gupta told reporters here.

On April 18, India indefinitely suspended cross-LoC trade at two points along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir following reports that it was being “misused” by elements from across the border.

The LoC trade across Chakan-Da-Bagh in Poonch district of the Jammu region and Salamabad in the Baramulla district of north Kashmir was intended as a confidence-building measure for the population living in Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

BJP state spokesperson on Kashmir Affairs Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo and another state spokesperson Balbir Ram Rattan also addressed the press conference.

“The BJP would like to reiterate that Article 370 and Article 35A have lost their relevance, if they had any, and time has come for their removal for good. They have been a basis to mislead the people about the constitutional and political status of the state and thus create a situation where the younger generations would be prone to political blackmailing and exploitation,” Chrungoo said.

He said these provisions cannot be allowed to provide an alibi for “separation, hatred, misuse of power, gender bias and infringement of fundamental rights” guaranteed by the Constitution.

“The Article 370 and Article 35A need to go on the first available opportunity once the government has the necessary legislative numbers,” he said.

Srinagar, May 25: Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) has stressed upon the government of India (GoI) to release all Kashmiri political prisoners as a good will gesture on or after taking oath of office for the next inning.
Party Spokesperson has said in a statement that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become very powerful after sweeping the recently held elections so he must now concentrate on becoming an international figure by resolving the political disputes like Kashmir. If Modi resolves Kashmir dispute he is sure to become a strong contender for the Nobel Peace Prize.
“The Kashmir dispute which is continuously consuming human lives has become a nuclear flashpoint between India and Pakistan, the two neighbouring countries, which have a very bright and larger role to play for the stability and peace of the South Asian region. So, both New Delhi and Islamabad must get the Kashmir issue resolved to make way for a larger role on international level,” Spokesperson said.
He said “the fresh dispensation at New Delhi, as a matter of beginning should announce releasing of all Kashmiri political prisoners as a good will gesture to build a confidence and create a situation which can lead to a resolution process. Since both India and Pakistan have numerous issues to address at their domestic levels so, it is high time for both to get engaged as mature democracies so as to find a final resolution of the long pending Kashmir dispute and end the sufferings of Kashmiri people who are suffering a lot since decades together for demanding for their internationally acknowledged political rights.”

Srinagar, May 23: Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) President and Party’s candidate for Baramulla Parliamentary constituency Er Rasheed has said that results are much encouraging for AIP and no one on earth can stop the party from becoming alternative to NC, PDP and other regional parties.

In a statement issued today, Rasheed said that the spirit of democracy needs to be respected and all those who have won the elections deserve congratulations. However, AIP has proved all political analysis wrong and has shown excellent performance by improving its performance beyond imagination. Those who used to accuse AIP of dividing votes should realize that party was not there to divide votes but to give a befitting fight despite all compulsions and the results have proved all those forces wrong who claimed to be lone warriors of Kashmiris.

Rasheed while thanking AIP cadres said that party is thankful to every single voter and party colleagues who voted and worked for an ideology and have laid a strong foundation stone for the future. AIP promises to follow its pro-people agenda with consistency and sincerity. One should not forget that AIP decided at the eleventh hour to contest the elections and without a proper cadre the party volunteers succeeded in sending a deep message to the masses that AIP has the potential to replace those who have given Kashmiris nothing except disappointments and false promises.

Rasheed reiterated his appeal to sincere political workers to join AIP and become part of a change which will not only ensure leadership that represents sentiments, sacrifices and aspiration of masses but will also give them best and corruption-free governance.
