ITBP man killed, 34 others injured in Ramban mishap

Srinagar, Dec 24: One ITBP (Indo Tibetan Border Police) trooper was killed and 34 others were injured when a bus they were traveling in met with an accident near Khoni nalllah on Srinagar-Jammu highway on Monday.

Reports said that the bus carrying 35 ITBP men skidded off the road near Khoni Nallah and rolled down into a deep gorge.

“They were returning back after being deployed for election duties in the recently concluded panchayat polls in the state”.

Station House Officer (SHO) concerned Vijay Kotwal said over phone that one personnel of ITBP has been killed while 29 others have been evacuated so far and removed to the nearby hospital. He said that condition of five of them is stated to be critical

Deputy Commissioner, Ramban Showkat Aijaz said that a rescue operation was launched soon after the mishap occured. He confirmed the death of one personnel.

“Five of the injured were critical and airlifted to GMC Jammu. The ITBP men were returning from Srinagar and were on way to Jammu,” he said.
