New Delhi, Apr 1: The Income Tax department on Monday has ordered to attach Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani’s residential flat in Malviya Nagar, New Delhi.

In an order, the IT department said the property was attached as Geelani has failed to “pay the sum of 3,62, 62, 160 for the AY 1996-97 to 2001-02”.

“Whereas the assessing officer has sent to the undersigned a certified copy of the certificate specifying an amount of Rs 3,62,62,160 plus interest is recoverable from you,” read the order.

It added: It is ordered that you are hereby, prohibited and restrained, until the further order of the undersigned, from transferring or charging the mentioned property.

Geelani heads Hurriyat (G) and is the senior-most separatist leader in the state.
