SRINAGAR, May 14Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, today said that Intelligent Traffic Lights (ITL) will become functional soon across the Srinagar city.
The Div Com was speaking in a meeting reviewing the progress of ITL project. The meeting was attended by IGP Traffic Kashmir Basant Rath, Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Purnima Mittal, Traffic Advisor to Government Anuj Malhotra, SSP Traffic, SMC officers, Deputy Director Planning besides representatives from DIMTS Myasa and IPE Global PMC consultants.
The Div Com took a serious note of the dismal progress on this prestigious project and issued strict instructions to the executing agency to expedite the installation work at all 33 junctions on war-footing and complete the project within the stipulated timeline.
Khan also directed IPE Global Consultants appointed for monitoring and supervising of the ITL project in Srinagar and Jammu cities to submit weekly reports in consultation with the Traffic Advisor to the Divisional Commissioner’s Office.
He said the ITL project is a major part of measures being taken for regulation and better road engineering in Srinagar and Jammu cities and due diligence and commitment is required on the part of all those involved in its execution. He instructed all the concerned to work in close coordination and complete this prestigious project on war-footing.
The ITL system will automatically read the volume of traffic at crossings and accident-prone areas and will reduce the occurrence of traffic jams besides reducing the tendency of road accidents in the Srinagar city.
The project sponsored under AMRUT scheme involves an estimated cost of Rs 4.15 crore in the first year. The work on the project was started in December 2017.
