India, Pakistan armies continue to de-escalate

Army Chief Baramulla Troops Operation Sindoor

Srinagar, May 15: Indian and Pakistan Directors General of Military Operations have decided to build on the CBMs to reduce the alertness level.

“Further to the understanding between the two DGMOs, it has been decided to continue the confidence-building measures to reduce the alertness level,” said a defence spokesman.

On May 12, Indian and Pakistani Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) agreed to consider immediate measures to ensure troop reduction from the borders and forward areas.

DGMOs of both countries talked on Monday evening and discussed ways to de-escalate the tension. “Talks between DGsMO were held at 5:00 PM, 12 May 2025. Issues related to continuing the commitment that both sides must not fire a single shot or initiate any aggressive and inimical action against each other were discussed. It was also agreed that both sides consider immediate measures to ensure troop reduction from the borders and forward areas,” said a defence spokesman.

Earlier, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited forward areas in Baramulla district and lauded troops for dominating the Line of Control during Operation Sindoor.

He asked them to always remain prepared to respond to any challenge with decisive force.

In an X post, the Army said the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) visited the Dagger Division of the Chinar Corps.

“General Upendra Dwivedi, COAS, visited forward locations of the Dagger Division, Chinar Corps, and interacted with all ranks. Addressing the troops, he commended them for their valour, josh, and vigilant actions towards dominating the Line of Control during Operation Sindoor,” Additional Directorate General of Public Information said in the post.

It said the Army chief lauded the role played by the troops in the destruction of terror camps in Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Under Operation Sindoor, offensive operations were carried out across “the length and breadth of enemy territory,” including high-impact strikes near Nur Khan Air Base and Rambhayr. These precision attacks were aimed at disrupting terrorist command hubs and logistics networks.
