Hisar, April 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a massive rally in Hisar on Ambedkar Jayanti, said India had only 74 airports before 2014, but the number has now crossed 150, highlighting a decade of progress under the BJP government.
The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of the new terminal at Maharaja Agrasen Airport in Hisar and flagged off the first flight to Ayodhya. Regular flights will now connect Hisar to Ayodhya (twice a week), and Jammu, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Chandigarh (thrice a week), marking a major expansion in Haryana’s aviation sector.
The new terminal, worth over ₹410 crore, will include a modern terminal building, cargo facility, and ATC tower.
Calling April 14 “Diwali for Dalits,” PM Modi paid tribute to Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar and reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment to uplifting Dalits, the poor, and backward communities. He said Haryana, known for its soldiers, sportsmen, and strong brotherhood, is playing a key role in building a Viksit Bharat.
“I had promised that even those wearing slippers would fly, and that promise is being fulfilled across the country,” Modi said, praising the UDAN scheme for enabling thousands to fly for the first time.
Later in the day, the Prime Minister will visit Yamuna Nagar to launch more development projects, including:
- An 800 MW thermal power unit at Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant (₹8,470 crore)
- Compressed Biogas Plant at Mukarabpur under the GOBARDhan scheme
- Rewari Bypass Project (14.4 km) under Bharatmala Pariyojana, costing ₹1,070 crore, aimed at easing city congestion and cutting travel time between Delhi and Narnaul
These initiatives, PM Modi said, reflect the Centre’s focus on infrastructure, energy, sustainability, and last-mile connectivity.
