Chandigarh, Apr 10: Early summer has gripped Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, with temperatures soaring higher than last year in the first week of April. Chandigarh, in particular, has recorded early heat, surpassing last year’s temperatures by mid-April.
According to Surendra Pal, Director of the Chandigarh Meteorological Center, “Last year, this kind of heat was felt after April 15, but this year, the mercury has already risen in early April.” He added that while the weather may cool temporarily, heatwaves are expected to hit the region soon. Though a Western Disturbance is expected, it won’t provide much relief from the heat.
The Meteorological Department predicts that this year will be hotter than last. People have been advised to avoid unnecessary outings, protect children and the elderly, drink plenty of water, wear light clothing, and reduce direct sun exposure.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a heatwave across Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan, with temperatures in some parts reaching severe levels. Rajasthan may experience thunderstorms, rain, or dust storms on April 11-12. Light rain is expected in Haryana on April 10-11, and Punjab may see rain and thunderstorms on April 10, with partly cloudy skies until April 13.
The IMD also warned of heatwave conditions in several regions, including Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana, with temperatures possibly reaching 39°C in Punjab today, and a minimum of 20°C. Tomorrow, the region could see a maximum of 33°C.
