Forest officer crushed to death by forces’ vehicle

Srinagar, Jan 28: An Army vehicle on Monday afternoon crushed a forest officer to death in Chogul area of Handwara in Kupwara district while as police said that the driver has been taken into the custody.

Aijaz Rasool Wani, Assistant Director Forest Protection Force, was killed when an Army Casper hit his Alto vehicle in Chogal Handwara. The officer died on the spot.

After the incident, locals staged a protest against the Army, demanding punishment to the vehicle driver.

Police said that it has taken the Army vehicle driver into their custody and has also seized the vehicle.

A police spokesman in a statement said that one Army vehicle (Casper) coming from Kupwara towards Sopore collided with an Alto car bearing

Registration number JK05B-5769 at Chogul, resulting critical injuries to the driver of the car.“The injured was taken to PHC Chogul for treatment where doctors declared him brought dead,” police said, adding that the deceased driver was identified as Aijaz Rasool Wani, son of Gh Rasool Wani of Sopore.

“In this connection, a case under FIR number 15/2019 under section 279, 304-A, 427 RPC has been registered in Police Station Handwara and investigations taken up,” police said, adding that driver of the Army vehicle has been taken into custody and vehicle seized.

 

Cop shoots self-dead in Budgam

Budgam, Jan 28: A head constable of J&K police shot himself dead with his service rifle in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Monday. The police have ordered a probe to look into the cause of suicide.
Reports said that Head Constable Mohammad Shafi Mir (46) son of Muhammad Ismail Mir resident of Sadoora Anantnag, who was posted at District Police Line (DPL) Budgam, shot himself dead with his service rifle Monday morning.
SSP Budgam Amod Nagpure said that the cop committed suicide by firing upon himself at DPL Budgam early Monday morning.
“Investigations started to ascertain the reasons for suicide,” he said. (KNO)

Bank guard shot at in Tral

Srinagar, Jan 28: Unidentified gunmen shot at and injured a former Army man, presently working as a guard in Jammu and Kashmir Bank, in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The injured man has been identified as 38-year-old Tariq Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Rasheed, a resident of Reshipora area of Tral.
Wani was an Army man and had retired a few years ago from active service in Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI).
He later joined the Jammu and Kashmir Bank as a guard and was presently posted at the bank’s branch in Dadsara area of Tral.
SSP Awantipora, Zahid Malik, confirmed that Wani was shot at. (KNS)
