Farooq says cinema shall return to Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 28: Inaugurating fourth edition of Kashmir World Film Festival (KWFF) at Tagore Hall here, National Conference’s Farooq Abdullah said cinema should return to the valley.

“Cinema and National Conference (NC) are in our blood,” he said.

He narrated his childhood memories related to cinemas in Kashmir, while also speaking about the threats suffered by the artists.

“When our party comes to power in the next elections, we will do everything to support KWFF,” he said.

“The art and artists in the valley need to be promoted and given a chance, Farooq said.

The NC leader, Dr Sameer Koul, who was the guest of honour, said, “Kashmir is inseparable from cinema.”

“When such gatherings or music shows used to be organised earlier, a heavy deployment of security needed to be put in place. But now, the things are changing,” he said.

Actor Tabu and director Madhur Bhandarkar were also present at the event.
