SRINAGAR, AUGUST 21: The Division of Youth Affairs, under the aegis of the Department of Students’ Welfare (DSW), University of Kashmir, hosted the IIPA Annual Debate 2024 today. Organized in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) J&K Regional Branch, the event saw enthusiastic participation from students across the Kashmir Division, who showcased their eloquence and critical thinking on the topic “Artificial Intelligence is Reshaping the World for the Benefit of Mankind.”
In her address at the prize distribution ceremony, Vice-Chancellor, KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, praised the vibrant energy of the participants. “The youth are indeed the backbone of our University, and extracurricular activities like debates are the heartbeat of the Youth Club under the Department of Students’ Welfare. These platforms not only foster intellectual growth but also play a crucial role in the holistic development of students. I am overwhelmed to witness such spirited participation in debates, cultural programs, and sports activities. These engagements are instrumental in shaping well-rounded personalities, preparing our students to be future leaders,” she said.
Prof. Naseer Iqbal, Registrar of the University of Kashmir, also commended the participants, stating, “Debates like these provide an excellent opportunity for students to engage in meaningful discourse. Such platforms are essential for developing critical thinking and communication skills, which are invaluable in today’s world.”
On the occasion ,Dr. G.N. Qasba, Vice Chairman, IIPA J&K Chapter expressed his gratitude to the University authorities for their support. The success of this debate assures us that there will be many more collaborative events in the future, aimed at nurturing the intellectual and leadership capabilities of our youth,” he stated.
Earlier, Prof. Shamim Ahmad Shah, Dean of Students’ Welfare, welcomed the participants and guests . “It is heartening to see the youth of Kashmir engaging in debates on such contemporary issues. Our aim is to provide students with platforms that not only enhance their academic prowess but also prepare them for the challenges of the real world,” he noted in his welcome address.
The highlight of the event was the IIPA Rolling Trophy, which was awarded to the debating team of Department of Law, University of Kashmir. The winning team comprised students Huma Khursheed and Barha Malik, who impressed the judges with their compelling arguments. In addition to the trophy, eight students were awarded cash prizes based on their merit.
Yarzuq Bilal from Amar Singh College secured the first position, Seerat Bhat from GDC Baramulla bagged the second position, and Huma Khursheed from the Department of Law, KU, claimed the third position. Hanan Marghoob from CASET College, Saira Bilal from MBA, KU, Jazlan Jahan from SKUAST, Kashmir, Moin Jan Rashid from IITM, Hyderpora, and Sarah Koul from Cluster University were given consolation prizes.
