Couple arrested for drug peddling in south Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 07: Police on Monday claimed to have arrested a couple for peddling drugs during a naka checking at Mirbazar area and recovered contraband substance from their possession.

A police spokesman in a statement said during naka checking at Akhran Bridge Mirbazar, Qazigund police arrested a couple identified as Sabzar Ahmad Rather @Raja son of Abdul Salam Rather resident of Mallipora Devsar and his wife (name withheld) for peddling drugs.

“Police has recovered 10 kilograms of poppy straw from their possession,” he said.

“Qazigund Police registered a case FIR NO 02/2019 under the relevant section of law and initiated investigations in the matter,” he added.

“Reportedly, the couple is involved in the sale of synthetic drugs at large scale to the local youth of the area,” the police spokesman said.
