Budgam gunfight: After 5 days, militant’s body fished out from Sukhnag nallah

Srinagar: Five days after the exchange of fire took place between security forces and militants in Budgam district, the forces on Friday morning recovered the unidentified body from Sukhnag Nallah of the district where search operation was going on for the last four days.

Officials said that security forces recovered an unidentified body, believed to be of a suspected millitant, from Sukhnag Nallah at Kawoosa area of the district.

Last Monday, a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF had launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Kawoosa area of Marbal, after specific input about the presence of militants in the area.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter. It was beleived that one of the militants while fleeing had jumped into the Nallah.

Security officials said that boats were pressed into service to trace the body in the nallah and on Thursday some ammunition was recovered by the army’s divers from the Nallah. “Today morning, an unidentified body, believed to be of a militant was fished out,” the officials said, adding that the identification of the person is being ascertained.
