Awantipora youth arrested for carrying grenades

Jammu, Aug 06: Police in Jammu on Monday said it busted a major militant plot after it arrested a man, who it claimed, possessed eight live hand grenades.

Rs 60,000 in cash was also recovered from him, police said.

Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Dr S D Singh said the cache of grenades were headed for Delhi and could have been used to disrupt Independence Day celebrations in the Capital.

The man identified as Arfan Wani, a resident of Awantipora in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, was arrested from Jammu’s Gandhi Nagar area.

Police said that the arrested man is being put through sustained interrogation to ascertain about the plans and his contacts in the city and its outskirts.

Forces are on alert in the wake of intelligence inputs that militant groups Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen are planning strikes in Jammu and New Delhi on the occasion of Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

JeM militant arrested in Anantnag: Police

Srinagar, Aug 06: Police in Anantnag on Monday claimed to have arrested a JeM militant and recovered huge cache of incriminating materials including explosives.

The spokesman claimed that acting on specific input Police in Anantnag arrested one Muzamil Ahmad Dar, 22, son of Fayaz Ahmad Dar, a resident of Bargam Tral and recovered explosive materials. In this connection case under relevant sections of law was registered at PS Bijbehara.

“During the course of the investigation, a huge cache of ammunition was recovered on his disclosure which includes IED, Chinese grenade, hand grenades, detonators, mobile phones, battery 12-volt, safety fuse wire, cordex wire, safety fuse, black explosive, white explosive, circuit wire etc.
