Srinagar, May 08: The eight bullet-hit civilians from South Kashmir admitted at SMHS hospital here on Sunday have been shot above their waist proving that no Standard Operation Procedure was followed while dealing with protestors.

Five civilians were killed and at least two dozen people grievously injured in clashes that erupted on Sunday in the wake of the encounter in Badigam Shopian in which five militants were killed.

Among the eight is Sajad Ahmad Yaqoob of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, who was shot at in his abdomen.

Yaqoob in his late 20s, a marketing executive of a television company was rushed to the hospital by the people.

“The locals took him to the hospital .We came to know about the incident through one of the close acquaintance. Our family is in deep shock,” said Sajad’s brother, Adil Yaqoob attending him at the hospital.

Yaqoob  said that Sajad is the only source of income.

“Our father is old and hardly able to do any work,” he said adding: “We are praying for his speedy recovery. His well-being matters a lot to us. Ours is big family, Sajad is loved by all,” he said.

Yaqoob said that that Sajad was not a part of the protests.

“At the time he was shot, he was on his way to the village, just adjacent to Badigam to meet one of the distributors,” he said.
