Srinagar, Feb 05: A protest demonstration was held by the Casual labourers of agriculture department on Tuesday at Pratap Park Srinagar to demand regularisation and implementation of SRO 520 in their services.

Scores of protestors from different districts of Kashmir assembled at Lalchowk’s Pratap Park holding placards and raising slogans against the government policies towards the casual labourers. The protest was held under the banner of J&K Agriculture casual Labor Daily Rated Workers Association in view of their long pending demands.

The protest was led by President of the association Haji Jahangir Ahmad who said, “We have been protesting for many years demanding the government to release our long pending wages and implement SRO 520 immediately.”

“Our files are pending in Secretariat since very long and we have been asked to submit 120 cash vouchers which are not mentioned in the SRO 520,” he said.

“I have been working as a casual labourer in this department for the last 11 years. I face a lot of problems because of the meagre wages I am being paid and that too is pending since January 2018. I am not even able to pay the school fee of my children,” said Abdul Wahab, one of the protestors.

He said that he is too exhausted and can’t suffer the injustice of the government towards them anymore.
