Bengaluru, Apr 13: Karnataka Police have confirmed the death of a man accused in a recent child abduction case in Hubballi during a police operation. The accused, identified as Nitesh Kumar from Bihar’s Patna, was being escorted by a team for investigation when he reportedly attempted to escape, leading to an encounter.
According to officials, the man attacked the police team and tried to flee despite being warned. A sub-inspector fired two rounds in response, after which he was immediately shifted to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
One police personnel sustained injuries during the operation. The accused had been booked under serious charges, and investigations were ongoing when the incident occurred.
Union Minister and Dharwad MP Pralhad Joshi termed the case “unfortunate” and urged the government to support the victim’s family, who are daily wage earners.
Earlier, the disappearance of the five-year-old girl had led to widespread concern in the locality, prompting swift police action. The situation had drawn attention from both the public and authorities.
Authorities have assured that all protocols were followed and further inquiries into the case will continue.
