‘200 militants killed, 50 apprehended in 2018 so far’

Srinagar, Nov 14: Security forces have killed 200 militants in Jammu and Kashmir this year so far, India today reported.
According to the report, most of the militants were affiliated to Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit.”109 militants were killed in south Kashmir, whereas North Kashmir saw 45 killings”.
Among the major operations was the killing of Abu Mateen and Abu Hamaas in March this year, followed by Sameer Ahmad Bhat alias Sameer Tiger in Shopian on April 1.
The next few months witnessed the killings of top militant commanders like Saddam Paddar, Abu Qasim and Abu Maviya.
Last month, 27 militants were killed, including Mannan Wani, Mehrajudin Bangroo and Sabzar Ahmad Sofi.
Moreover, 50 militants were apprehended while five militants surrendered before the forces.
Last year the figure was 200 as on November 30, the report said.
Scholars-turned-militants Mannan Wani and Sabzar Sofi‘s killings sparked turmoil in the region with pro-freedom leaders having called for valley-wide shutdowns following the news.

 

Two HM militants arrested in Awantipora: Police

Srinagar, Nov 14: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit from Awantipora area of south Kashmir.
A police spokesman in a statement said that Police and security forces in Awantipora laid a Naka at Panzgam following credible inputs.
“At the Naka (checkpoint) the joint team of forces intercepted two persons and during their checking recovered arms & ammunition from their possession which includes UBGL, grenades & live rounds and other incriminating materials,” the spokesman claimed.
The spokesman identified the duo as Jan Mohammad Sheikh son of Abdul Aziz Sheikh resident of Kaweni Dugripora and Nasir-ul-Islam son of Shabir Ahmad Shah resident of Panzgam.
“Police has registered a case under relevant sections of law and preliminary investigation in the instant matter has revealed that the duo are affiliated with HM outfit. Further investigation in the instant matter is going on,” the spokesman added.
