Srinagar, Feb 10: With few weeks left for school reopening, the education department is going to suffer a big way as hundreds of top posts in schools and higher secondaries are lying vacant.

Official sources said that top positions including Chief Education Officers, Principal DIETs and Higher Secondary Schools and Zonal Education Officers are lying unfilled.

Sources said that 16 posts of CEOs and Principals DIETs, 146 Principals in Higher Secondary Schools, 36 Zonal Education Officers and 236 Headmasters posts in Kashmir valley are lying vacant.

Sources revealed that the department is also short of 1599 lecturers, 12 Zonal Education Planning Officers (ZEPOs) and 5 Headquarter Assistants (HQ.A).“The whole education system will be badly hit when schools will reopen after winter vacation,” officials told KNS.
Officials said that the government is likely going to promote teachers and masters against these posts but the process is very slow as the files move at snail’s pace in Civil Secretariat.

The teachers and masters have appealed to the chief secretary and governor to intervene to streamline the system before schools reopen.

Director School Education Kashmir Dr. Ghulam Nabi Itoo told KNS that recently, 20 CEOs, 26 ZEOs and 30 Principals were promoted. “Rest proposals are in pipeline and hopefully these will be completed very soon,” he said adding, “with this things will improve.”
“Moreover process for filling up of Lecturer posts on contractual basis has been started. The selection of teachers from Service Selection Board is expected very soon,” he said.
