10+2 contractual lecturers demand regularisation

Srinagar, Dec 13: The 10+2 contractual lecturers on Thursday asked the government to regularise their services at an earliest.
Staging a protest at the Press Enclave here, under the banner of All J&K Contractual Lecturers (10+2) Forum, they raised slogans in favour of their demands.

Carrying placards, they said the government should regularise them as per the Civil Services Special Provision Act 2010.“The government should regularise us without any delay. We have been asking for it for a long time, while we have been suffering because of the authorities’ casual approach,” said Javaid Ahmad, a lecturer.

“All lecturers have been appointed after qualifying the examination. The examination was conducted by Director School Education Kashmir. We shall be allowed to work in the education department till the matter is resolved,” said President of the forum, Gurjeet Singh.

Singh, referring to the government order of 2003, said, “It is mentioned in it that the lecturers appointed on academic arrangement against this order will be regularised after three years.”

“In 2003, the term academic arrangement was changed to contractual. In 2009, General Administration Department issued an order, where it was mentioned that persons appointed on contractual basis under the order of 2003 will continue with their services till further orders,” he maintained.

They said they met the former chief secretary and advisors to the governor to discuss their demand.
